Healing waters in the outback
AVP Commercial Pools have used the latest technology in swimming pools in three remote aboriginal communities in the north of Western Australia. Burringurrah, Jigalong and Mugarinya now boast a 25m x 12m swimming pool using Myrtha Technology.
As a result of the Government’s Environmental Health Package, the provision of recreational facilities have been made a priority to improve the health outcomes in Aboriginal communities as well as enhancing social cohesion and quality of life.
The Telethon Institute for Child Health Research has already commenced studies into the effects of the pool on the health of community residents.
Situated in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, each town is more than 1300km north of Perth and has a population ranging from 200 to 400.
AVP Commercial Pools built each pool and installed the filtration & plant room equipment within a four week period. The ease of construction made the use of Myrtha Technology the ideal choice for these locations. Transportation is also much simpler and cheaper than traditional construction methods.
A team of four men from AVPCommercialPools travelled from Perth to each location by 4WD. Because of the remote locations, the provision of all the right tools and equipment was critical. Communication was also limited to the use of satellite phones.
The Myrtha Pools installed in these remote communities feature level wet deck to all sides of the pool which provides better and quicker filtration of the water. From a safety aspect, having no headwalls helps with supervision of children in the water with nothing obstructing the view.
